Transition to high-density pixel displays that began with smartphones and tablets has spread to the computer monitors. 4K PC screens appeared in 2014, and understanding pixel density has become important when choosing a product, along with screen size and resolution. Our topic is the transition to high pixel density screens, including trends in the latest technology. There are two standards for 4K resolution, “DCI 4K” and “UHD 4K.
Support for a high-pixel density display environment in a computer's operating system is called Hi-DPI support. With operating system support, application support is advancing, and the PC programming environment surrounding Hi-DPI has moved to a practical level. This encourages the expansion of high pixel density screens such as 4K.
DPI or dots per inch is a measure of the resolution of a printed document or digital scan. The higher the dot density, the higher the print or scan resolution. As a rule, DPI is a measure of the number of points that can be placed in a line inside an inch.
PPI or DPI is a description of the density of pixels on the screen. A higher pixel density means more pixels will be packed into every square inch of your screen.
The exact point at which a higher PPI goes undetected is controversial. Some say the optimal pixel density is around 400 ppi, while others say the perceivable pixel density is closer to 1000 ppi. Since these are personal preferences, it is always better to test the monitor yourself before deciding which screen to use.
DCI 4K has twice the projector resolution of 2048 x 1080 pixels (4096 x 2160 / approx. 17: 9) and 4K is the resolution of the film industry. In contrast, UHD 4K (also called UHDTV 4K) is the television industry's 4K resolution defined by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). It has double the horizontal resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels Full HD (3840 x 2160/16: 9). 4K is a high resolution with double vertical and horizontal pixels from Full HD and refers to resolutions with a horizontal pixel count of about 4 million.As screen resolution increases, the new element to consider when choosing a screen today is pixel density. The pixel density on the screens is a specification that indicates the degree of definition, and the value is usually expressed in ppi. Ppi stands for "pixels per inch" (not per square inch). One inch equals 2.54 centimeters. Over the next few years, 4K is expected to replace Full HD as the main resolution.
Reducing the distance between pixels (pixel spacing) without changing the screen size of the LCD screen increases the ppi, and the higher the number, the higher the screen definition. For example, at 100 ppi it has 100 pixels of 2.54 centimeters each, and at 300 ppi it has 300 pixels wrapped in the same width.
Higher DPI means sharper image. A higher resolution image provides more information to the printer and the printer device. You can get more detail from images with higher DPI.
Monitor with a large number of PPIs shows a higher level of detail. Similarly, a digital image with a large number of pixels contains more detailed visual information and can therefore be reproduced in larger formats without pixelation
