Bosch Athlet BCH61840GB Review: Is It A Good Entry-Level Vacuum?

The BCH61840GB is the entry-level vacuum of the Athlet lineup. And Bosch, one of The Best Vacuum Cleaner , promises that this vacuum cleaner can deliver excellent results on different floor types just like any other high-quality models.

But can it live up to that claim?

Design

Bosch have chosen a futuristic approach for the design of the entire Athlet series, so of course, the BCH61840GB has some influences of that look.

It's a sleek black machine with many cool-sounding names emblazoned on the body, making it one of the most impressive-looking vacuums you can have.

But it does not have only a fancy appearance.

The “Sensor Bagless” is a unique technology of Bosch, help improving the suction power while reducing the maintenance needs. The BCH61840GB also features a self-righting mechanism. So when you accidentally topple it, this vacuum can correct itself immediately.

Its powered brush roller is capable of stirring up and removing dirt, fibers, and dust from any floor type, including the grouting area in-between tiles.

But the bar will only rotate when you turn on the Turbo mode. Otherwise, it will reduce the battery life quickly.

In default working mode, it has a speed of about 5000 RPM, providing excellent cleaning results on most types of surfaces.

But unlike the Lift-Off technology of Bissell's 2-in1 vacuums, you can't transform it into a handheld model. So despite its great maneuverability and the light weight, it can't dive under your furniture to pick up dirt due to its upright design.

Other features include the battery indicator, which shows the battery level, and the 0.9-liter dust bin. This is an acceptable capacity for a cordless model, but quite small compared with other corded vacuums.

You will need to empty it often, but fear not, this process is easy to do.

Power

The runtime is impressive, which can top 40 minutes easily. But this only applies to the normal mode. When you want to use a higher suction power on Turbo mode, its runtime will decrease significantly. So you should only use that powerful cleaning mode for the most stubborn dirt.

On the other hand, you can extend its runtime to a full hour with the Low Power mode. But while the cleaning time is longer, suction power is sacrificed.

Performance

With the Turbo mode on, the BCH61840GB works amazingly well on all types of carpet. You can even compare the results to those of low-power corded vacuums.

Its maneuverability and light weight design helps a lot in the cleanup process, encouraging customers to repeat areas not cleaned entirely in the first pass, making it one of the best vacuums on the market

On hardwood floors, you can easily move it around. The flexible floor head is a godsend, enabling you to pivot it backwards and forwards as well as the other sides. But there is still room for improvement.

Pros and Cons

Pros:
  • Affordable
  • Long runtime
  • Works well on all types of surface
  • Has a turbo mode

Our Verdict

The Bosch Athlet BCH61840GB is an incredible machine - one of the Top best vacuum cleaners in the entry-level segment. If you are looking for an affordable cordless machine with a powerful performance, we highly recommend it.
